Cycles Depas

c.1930

Lithograph in colors, condition B, printed by Bénard, Liege backed on linen.

28 x 39 ½ in. (71 x 100 cm.)

Emphasizing its quality, the Depas rolls so effortlessly that its rider needs to worry only about holding on. Although clothed, this brunette rider seems nearly a mirror image of the famous "Cycles Gladiator" poster design. The poster goes on to display two specific models and list the major brands that supply the bikes' various parts. The blank rectangle at the bottom of the poster is present for an individual bike shop to add their name to the poster. Since that space remains blank here, this particular poster most likely was never actually used. Instead, it would have been sold directly to a poster collector. Depas sponsored major Belgian racers, most notably François Gardier, winner of the 1933 Liege-Bastogne-Liege.
