Cycle "le Rochambeau"

c.1890

Lithograph in colors, condition B, printed by Henon, Paris, backed on linen.

33 x 23 in. (85 x 59 cm.)

The development of pneumatic tires by John Dunlop in 1887 made cycling so much easier, that ladies could suddenly ride their bikes comfortably and stably, even on the beach! Little is known about Cycle Le Rochambeau, but they must've been on the cutting edge of cycling culture. They are one of very few companies to advertise showing a female cyclist wearing riding trousers rather than a skirt. The exact date of this poster is unknown, but visual evidence suggests that it may be the oldest in this collection.
