Durkopp
c.1915
Lithograph in colors, condition B+, printed by Leykam, Graz, backed on linen.
Designed in the Plakatsil, or "poster style" in English, this German poster design focuses closely on the product for sale without a great deal of outside embellishments. This style led to the more enduring art deco movement which swept through Europe and the U.S. The Dürkopp Company was founded in the middle of the nineteenth century in Bielefeld, Germany, producing sewing machines. They grew quickly and merged with a few other companies, most notably Adler, a competing bicycle manufacturer. They also had an Austrian branch in Graz. The company expanded and downsized through both world wars and is still in business today as Dürkopp-Adler producing industrial sewing machines. The Diana bicycle model was produced from 1910 until 1920.
